Wondering about changing polarity of SM MPO connectors

I know you can use a key up to up coupler to change polarity on MM MPO cables but is it possible to do the same with SM MPO cables? Since all SM cables have APC ends how do those cables that allow you to change polarity work? I've read that the high side is toward the factory key end.
