Use multiple uplink ports to increase uplink?

Hi.

Most of the switches out there seem to have multiple uplink ports.

Are these ports also able to be used as "one" uplink? So will connecting 4 of these ports from each switch together with 4 SFP+ cables result in 40 GBit/s uplink between the switches?
