Why are LAGs pre-configured on a lot of managed switches?

I frequently configure various managed switches for AV. One thing I've noticed is that many have LAGs numbered from maybe 1 and on up. Why do they exist by default? Why wouldn't they just not exist until manually created? They aren't configured by default but they exist.
