Ground bus bar in an MDF - Is a two hole compression lug still required?

Hi all,

We're getting some work done in the MDF, and some new equipment needs to be bonded. I remember a few years back (2010?) one of the structured cabling contractors telling me they use two hole compression lugs for the ground wires when attaching to the busbar because it is an ANSI standard (J-STD-607-A) and also prevents lug rotation on bus bar applications.

Fast forward to today, I noticed the new structured cabling contractor attach the ground wires to the bus bar using a one hole lug rather than a two hole. I mentioned what the previous contractor said and they appeared to be confused and shrugged it off. A few minutes after we had that discussion, they mentioned something about two hole compression lugs for #12 AWG wire being costly and that one hole will be good enough for our application. They appear to be right about the two hole compression lugs being costly. After a few hours of researching, the cheapest two hole lug I found costs upwards of $13.

Would anyone be able to clarify if two hole compression lugs are still required? Also, where would one usually purchase two hole lugs for #12 AWG wire that cost less than $13?

Thank you!
