Sorry if this is not a good fit for this sub:
I graduated in 2015, and since then I have been involved with some form of Broadcom and using their sdk to configure enterprise routers. I feel that there is a significant hole in my understanding of the underlying system and hardware. I also feel like the knowledge to be gained to work on such systems is probably at a graduate level. Documentation is difficult to parse for most systems and in my current company, it's worse as there is no clear documentation on how the NOS interacts with the Chipset and NPUs. I feel like enterprise networking nearer to the NIC hardware is not for me.
While I can learn switching and routing protocols, I kind of loath having to work below the control plane and in the data plane. My current company's muddled code is not helping either.
Anybody else faced the same problem I am having? What would you recommend that I do?
