Question about the most frequently reccomended books.

I've been trying to prepare for a networking test, and I've noticed that TCP/IP is commonly reccomended on here and on related subs. I started learning using the book, but it having multiple editions/volumes, my requirements being much less technical, and the book being dated makes me wonder if this is the right choice for me.

To be more specific, the competencies listed on the bottom of this page are what I'm looking to learn. Is TCP/IP the right option, or would you reccomend a different approach to this?
