Hi all,
Trying to wrap my head around EVPN, I couldn't really figure out why is type 5 necessary. From what I understood, type 5 is meant for cases where subnets (i.e. broadcast domains and IP prefixes) are confined to a single DC/EVPN fabric which means there's no reason to advertise host routes (type 2) and instead aggregate and send NLRI for entire segments (without MAC or VTEP etc.).
My question is, how is this different from normal BGP? Why would I use the EVPN AFI/SAFI and a specific type instead of just plain IPv4 (or even VPNv4)? After all, I only advertise entire segments...
Cheers.
