I have a managed Ethernet switch (call it switch A) with some devices connected and also connected to another managed Ethernet switch (call it switch B).
When I connect my laptop to switch B I cannot see switch A or any of the connected devices by ping.
When I connect my laptop directly to switch A I can ping everything. When I connect my laptop to a typical Netgear unmanaged 5 port Ethernet switch and connect this to switch A I can ping everything.
Here is the weird part:
When I connect the Netgear 5 port switch between switch A and Switch B, and connect my laptop to switch B, I can again ping everything.
All of this is fixed IP (no DHCP).
Any ideas what to look for? I don't understand how adding the Netgear switch between A and B works, but directly connecting A to B does not work. I don't really know where to start looking.
Laptop is running Linux, so I can use Wireshark and many other programs to gather information.
