So I got a ZoneDirector 1200 which seems to hate switches. Factory-defaulted the device then followed the prompts to set up the primary ethernet interface, and things seems to be fine. For this example, let's say I have the ZD at 10.100.5.21/24, within a VLAN.
If I plug my laptop directly into that port and configure a static IP in that range, I can see the ZoneDirector just fine. However, if I plug this interface into a switch (to which I actually tried a few different switches), set to an access port in the same VLAN, it doesn't work at all.
Just to be sure, I checked by plugging in my laptop to said port on the switch, and I could ping the gateway on that VLAN as usual.
So what could be wrong here? (Thanks!)
