Iam a network engineer with 7+ yrs exp & CCNP certified. Whenever i attend interview, my experience has been that the concepts i learned in certification has helped me more than the knowledge gained in work to clear interviews. For example, i couldn't have answered questions related to spanning tree if i hadn't studies certs as most N/W engineers don't fiddle with spanning tree. I feel certs would help you lot more than knowledge gained in work as any N/W engineer would only apply a fraction of concepts covered in certs in his workplace (though i won't discount workplace knowledge completely, just that it has played a secondary role in helping e clear interviews). What has been your experience?
