Hello Redditors,
I’m trying to understand what are the steps one must do to connect 1 office in one country to 1 remote office in another part of the world. I’m also trying to understand what WAN/VPN is best practice in todays networks.
From what I understand, MPLS is preferred over Frame Relay, ATM and leased lines. But would it be better to use a GRE/IPsec instead of MPLS?
In summary, are these essentially all the steps needed: 1. Configure office A CE router 2. Get ISP to setup ELSR/lSR routers 3. Configure office B CE router Anything else i’m missing? What about the remote ISP in the other country? Does the local ISP work have to work with the remote ISP or would that be my job? How does this normally work?
I’m just trying to get a better understanding on real world remote site-to-site connections as I most of my knowledge are from books and not real world.
Thanks in advance!
TLDR: how do you set up MPLS with ISPs? Is there a better (cheaper/more efficient) than MPLS, like VPN? If so whats the best type VPN for 1-to-1 sites?
