We currently use a Cisco VEN501 WAP for CPE for Video for our customer. We are running into an issue where the customers W-STBs are no longer getting a lease after a certain period of time (Random), the fix is to reboot the AP and then reboot the W-STBs. We have had these deployed for more than 3-4 years and starting to see more and more of the issue. I put 4 of these APs in the lab on the same 5Ghz channel and put other wireless networks in the same lab to see if I could recreate the issue and was unable to.
From our understanding:
Customers don't have an issue with the STBs that are wired, only W-STBs. We don't see this issue across the board with every customer. We also updated the VEN501 to the latest firmware to see if this would fix the issue but it has proven it does not. We are thinking it could be dirty wireless on the customers' end but not able to recreate the issue in the lab with dirty wireless. We also have customers who are nowhere near any other wireless networks and have the issue.
Issue:
Customers STBs drop signal and rebooting the AP seems to fix the issue (Sometimes we have to reboot the W-STBs). We are not seeing an active lease in the NID when this happens.
Anyone have any suggestions or any ideas to try in the lab?
