Hey all,
Just curious what your thoughts are and if I should be at all concerned about DMCA at my place of employment. First off, I work at a university with a small population of students living on campus. We've also got a wide open guest network that doesn't require a password to join. We are blocking BitTorrent at the firewall level. I am not particularly concerned with student devices hosting illegal content for that reason. However I am concerned about students and staff accessing illegal streaming content. Sites that host streams of movies and TV shows are one example, streams of live TV such as network TV shows/sports/pay-per-view content are another example.
That said I do know that DMCA is more concerned with the providers and less so with the consumers of such media. Has anyone gotten DMCA notices due to users on their networks viewing these streams? I know in theory it's probably a DMCA violation but just trying to figure out if in practice it's actually being enforced.
