Thin (28 AWG) patch cables for PoE+ in racks: Yes or no

I've been reading quite bit lately about the limitations of reduced wire gage patch (28 AWG) cables since our older racks weren't built for handling the increased amount of cables we need by todays's standard. However I'm less of an electrician than a sysadmin and netadmin. Those older racks only provide space on 1 side to route cables and are generally less wide than what you get in a modern telco rack. We are at the point where we really have 2-3 racks in dire need where a couple of us have agreed it would really help us all by doing a full re-wiring of all patch cables.

The current wiring is mostly Cat 5e and minimally some Cat 6, due to wireless we have increased PoE(+) usage over the last years quite a bit. Certainly we plan on using the shortest possible cables per plug (instead of those 2-3m (6.5-10ft)) patch cords that are currently in use.

Looking at those 28 AWG cables from FS and Panduit I think they could actually improve things quite a bit but I'm still not convinced in terms of limited cable density and added loss. - Are those 1-2m from the switch to the patch panel going to have such a high impact or could this still be OK?

Both vendors say that their cables pass the specs when bundle size and total cable lenght is brought into consideration. Also PoE+ shouldn't be an issue with up to 48 cables per bundle. I'm only considering the patch cables within the rack, not from the plugs in the offices. - Any experiences, pros and cons you'd be willing to share?
