We are (in the very early stages of ) planning out the feasibility of moving our DR site to the cloud (AWS in this case). While there is going to a lot to learn along the way, the biggest showstopper I see if our dedicated circuits to other vendors, for example, Bloomberg. I have initiated communication with these vendors, but I really have no experience yet of cloud connectivity other than direct connect, and want to feel out my options (or lack there of). I can see this working out 3 ways (some of which may not even be options):
- Larger vendors already have a tie-ins with AWS and we can purchase a "virtual circuit" (for lack of the correct term) via the market place (probably unlikely)
- I can have the vendor deliver a circuit to the datacenter of my choice and connect to my cloud instance. I assume this is possible because they already allow customer equipment for VPN appliances to the best of my knowledge)
- I have to keep a small physical presence for DR connectivity in a colo and VPN/Direct connect it to the cloud instance for vendor connectivity
Are any of the above possible?
Are there options I am not considering?
Are there other factors/potential problems I should be looking out for?
And thank you for any help and advice!
