Hi guys. In my job I don't have really anything to do with explicit security protocols, it's just transporting from A to B, MPLS is the shiz. So, my question is this then, you have these IPSec, TLS/SSL, HTTPS, and I get confused as to where they are applied and what they really protect, as such. I know IPsec is used to create secure tunnels across the internet, but TLS, HTTPS, I honestly don't understand what they encrypt (protect), is it just the payload for example? If you were to apply the OSI model could you not just in theory just encrypt at the application-layer, then it's all good on the other layers? It just gets confusing as to where they are applied.
