Cisco - VLAN accessibility through multiple ports on router

I have a setup shown below. I need to make VLAN 40 accessible via Switch1. Below are the two options that I know of. Is there a better, best practices, option to accomplish this?

  1. Create another subinterface for VLAN 40 on 0/0 with a different IP (I don't think this is best practice.)
  2. Run a trunk cable from Switch1 to Switch2 (Would need to run fiber, trying to avoid this)

SWITCH1<-----> (VLAN 10, 20, 30 - Sub Int 0/0.10, 0/0.20, 0/0.30) ROUTER(Sub Int 0/1.40 - (VLAN 40)<----->SWITCH2
