Small business switch help I'm a noob.

TLDR; Do you like the TRENDnet GREENnet 24 port v2.1R for small business applications with an unmanaged switch? Is the v1.1R just as good for most applications?

I have been thrown into a small business "IT guy" position. A family member is probably retiring in a year or two and did not renew with his managed services company when they insisted on replacing his Windows 2012 R2 server with a newer one. Now they are having problems. One of the employees works remotely and was having connection issues with the network drives and her vpn. The managed services "Emergency Call In" suggested it might be the switch. Does this sound right?

There are two switches that are old Netgear FS116. It seems like the only reason there are two was so that new cables did not have to be run to the basement. There are less than 16 total connections to the network. The network jacks all go to the basement where one switch is connected to most of the office. The second switch is upstairs and connected to the server, two printers and a workstation. I am going to try and run new cables today and get down to a single switch.

This week I will replace the switch. There is a lot of hate for Netgear on here and I am curious to why. Regardless, I am leaning toward the Trendnet GREENnet 24 port v2.1R. Is this good enough for a small business that is not data heavy? Do you like/hate the TRENDnet products long term or this one in particular? Cost is not an issue to a point. There is also the GREENnet v1.1R that seems to have similar specs and is about $20 cheaper, which is not an issue but why pay more for unnecessary functionality?
