ISP Failover with Two Dumb Switches

I'm going to lead with the fact that networking is not my strong point, and I accept my lack of knowledge. Any help is appreciated. On to the question.

I have two ISPs. They attach to two different dumb switches. Each dumb switch is connected to two different firewalls, providing connectivity from each ISP to both firewalls. Each firewall connects to a single managed switch, which makes up the LAN.

When performing failover testing, pings from a LAN host to address A on the public internet drop when the primary ISP is pulled. Starting a ping to public address B from the same LAN host succeeds. Why is this happening, and what other routing issues should I expect to run into?
