Hi all,
I've noticed a fair few people taking up disconnected lifestyles on /r/nosurf as ways to mitigate mindless browsing habits. The problem I find is that after a few directed searches there doesn't seem to be too many programmer/engineer or IT type folk in general who talk about this as an issue or ways to solve it. Totally disconnecting is not practical for any IT professional today so I'm wondering if anyone here has a practical solution.
My question(s) today are directed towards the Network Engineering professionals of this subreddit as I believe most people here are highly skilled and functioning professionals. Another reason why I posted to this subreddit (apart from being a NetEng myself) is that we run the medium/transports that facilitate the Web and that gives us an unusual perspective on the matter.
- Do you suffer from mindless surfing on the Web?
- Has this habit resulted in you missing out on opportunities or held you back from obtaining a goal (e.g. Certification/promotion or other pursuits in your personal life)
- Are you currently in the process of resolving this issue and how?
- Do you believe we have a more difficult task because IT professionals spend such a long time on Computers during and after work?
