Finding a cable / finding an old access point

Long time listener, infrequent poster. Please bear with me.

Back in the day, my company had Nortel 2332 access points with the associated controller running off PoE switches. Since then:

  • We've upgraded our infrastructure twice.
  • All the existing controllers either died or were taken out of service with extreme prejudice and are gone.

In the interest of filling in any gaps in coverage, I wanted to find these old timers and replace with current stock. I know they're still on the network, as they're getting IP addresses and power, but because there's no controller there's no SSID to query against so I can't use my Aircheck. I then thought of putting my fox & hound on it, but the building's F'ing huge and between the metal "architecturally interesting" ceiling and all the other stuff going on in the building I can't put enough juice down the wire to track it.

Does anyone have any ideas, either to light up the AP with a known SSID, or how to to trace a wire from a good distance away?
