I am doing my first connection between two buildings on a campus. The buildings are 200m apart. I will have 10G switches at both ends with SFP+ ports. I know that I can use multi mode fiber up to 550m and get 10G (according to the standards).
My cabling contractor is suggesting to install a Corning fiber hand-off at both ends before connecting to the switches, instead of directly connecting them.
My question is this: do I need that / is it a best practice? I certainly wouldn't do that for connecting switches within a single server room. I have googled every way I can think of to answer this question, and can't find anything on the topic outside of converting single mode to multi mode or fiber to copper. TIA!
