Looking for a simple way for two linux boxes to automatically discover each other's presence on a LAN. E.g. I have two DHCP clients plugged into the same LAN, "box a" and "box b". I would like box b to ask the network if there's a box a, and if so, respond with your IP address. Also, this would need to be done w/o DNS, as the boxes could be named anything. Also, I don't want to "cheat" by simply scanning the entire network.. looking to do this via some kind of broadcast.
Any suggestions on how to do this are much appreciated!
