My last post was removed for being too short, I'll try to give more info this time. I'm looking for a 48 port switch for our office. I'm "the IT guy" around here but I'm not a network administrator by any means. We need a new switch once every 10 years, so my knowledge about them is pretty limited. I'm just looking for a reliable unit that will last us another 5-10 years.
48 Port Gigabit Switch Requirements:
-
Noise - We have a dedicated server room so noise is no big issue but it would be nice to have something reasonably loud as we do sometimes have people working in that room.
-
Power - PoE is not necessary. Also I'm not too worried about power consumption. Again, as long as it's reasonable that's fine.
-
Fully Managed - As I said I'm not really a network administrator so if the switch does everything on its own that would be preferable for me. I know Switches these days come with cloud functionality and apps for monitoring them. That sounds nice to have as long as it's not a hard requirement for operating the switch.
-
Security - I really don't know much about this. I heard there are several "Layers" to chose from. Any suggestions here would be very welcome. We are a small office that does most of our IT ourselves.
Currently I’m looking at the: HPE Aruba Instant On 1930 48G
This switch goes for around $350 where I live. I was prepared to pay more and still am if that gives me a considerably better machine.
Any suggestions are welcome!
