192.168.x.x vs 10.x.x.x for ISP routers

Why are routers by default usually set up as 192.168.x.x/24 instead of 10.x.x.x/24? Is there some technical reason? Because as far as I see, 10.0.0.1 is easier to type.

I know that before CIDR, the address determined the network size, but RFC1918 addresses were invented after, so I don’t understand.
