Network Monitoring - Span VS TAP

Hi all,

Looking on peoples thoughts regarding network monitoring solutions and the use of SPAN ports vs network TAPs.

I've always used SPAN ports, but I'm reading more and more literature explaining that SPAN ports are a bad idea for security purposes and also because of packet dros, one such source is this: https://www.industrialdefender.com/tap-vs-span-in-ot-environments/

I get how a network TAP would work, but is the issue with SPAN ports really such a concern that introducing new hardware (network TAPs) is required?
