If I ping "google.it" (I'm in Italy) I get an IP located in USA. But why? Shouldn't I connect to a server closer to me so at least European ?

The only doubt that comes to me is that when I ping "google.it" I get the hostname "mil04s43-in-f3.1e100.net" so it is possible that the "mil" stands for Milan and then I am connected to a server actually Italian? (I don't think it has anything to do also because on ip tracker it gives me USA location)
