Difference Between Passive Network Taps

Within our datacenters and at our remote support sites we have passive network taps installed so we can pull packets essentially directly off the wire. Span ports are great but nothing beats raw packet capture IMO.

Anyway I have seen how much enterprise taps costs, for example we use Viavi taps that cost around $1K a piece.

I was looking to buy a throwing star tap for my field gear so if I needed to break into a circuit and pull packets inline I could. I noticed a huge difference in price. I know there is always a difference in price between enterprise/datacenter and commercial gear but the throwing star taps are around $10-$30 so why such a huge price difference? Would I be compromising any field tests by getting a cheap throwing star tap, or is there something going on behind the scenes with the enterprise taps that I may not be tuned into?
