I’m not a network engineer, but I’m working to troubleshoot an issue with a set of 250 devices on an enterprise network, where they cannot retain their DHCP lease.
Looking at the OFFER sent from our servers, the renewal/binding intervals (option 58/59) are not provided. This seems like an issue to me, but when I asked our Sr Network Manager is this should be configured, all he really had to say was “well we’ve never configured this in the past and we haven’t had issues”. To me, it seems like our servers should be calculating this off option 51 (lease time), but we also have the option to explicitly define these options.
What’s considered best practice in this scenario? Is it odd to not be providing these options at all?
