Hi,
I've been working at my first full-time job for a month and a half as a recent college graduate. Currently at my company there is a VoIP system established to make calls to HQ (outside USA) but nobody understands/knows how the system was setup. I am in charge of figuring everything out about our VoIP system.
My initial guess was that we would be using SIP to connect to the PSTN, but apparently HQ confirmed months ago that our VoIP gateway isn't capable of it. I dug up a copy of our current gateway configuration that had SIP and H.323 listed but assistant manager told me I shouldn't base off my conclusion on configuration because there's no guarantee that that's how the machine actually works.
So after hours of fruitless research online, I have 2 questions I hope someone can help me with: 1. Is there a way to determine the type of signaling protocol from the gateway without looking into its configuration? 2. As far as I understand SIP and H.323 are two different protocols, but the configuration gave me the impression that H.323 is a part of SIP. Could anyone provide any insights with this?
Thank you in advance and let me know if there are any details I should include. I'll try to answer to the best of my knowledge.
