Switch question

Hey guys sorry for the noob question but I’ve got a pair of 8 port gbe smart switches, is there a difference/benefit of hooking one to the other vs each one separately to my router?

So router—->switch 1——>switch 2

Vs

Router——>switch 1 Router——>switch 2
