So at my job, we have this old switch with 24 ports that needs to be tested. I am not an IT professional, however, I have more networking knowledge than anyone here and am basically de facto IT person.
I was thinking I could just plug the switch to the network and then plug two machines into it and try to ping each other and just do this over and over again to see if all the ports work.
Another option I thought would be to install netcat on the two machines and try and send messages over a TCP connection between the two.
Are these my best options?
