I only know enough about networking to be dangerous. I understand subnetting, and why it is useful. What I do not understand is any subnet between /16 and /24. Why would you WANT to choose an option that has fewer addresses than 255.255.0.0 but more than 255.255.255.0 . Why wouldn't everyone just go for the option that has more potential addresses.
You can still just set DHCP ranges to whatever you want, you would just have more room to grow in the future. It really seems MORE complicated to my brain to choose a more limited range of ip addresses. Almost like you would have to go out of the way, and do more math in your head just to have less addresses, and I am not sure why anyone would do this. Thoughts?
