Hi all, I currently have a small fleet of old trusty Nortel/Avaya PoE switches deployed at a long term care facility, but I think these old guys are close to failing; I’m getting a lot of fan alerts and other concerning notices from LibreNMS.
These switches are in literal closets and utility rooms as there was no where else to put them close to where they were needed. This means they’re typically warm in the summer and cool in the winter. Some of the rooms have some cleaning sinks in them as well so the humidity may go up a bit.
That said, the budget isn’t infinite, so I’m trying to find the most reasonably priced modern replacement. So far I’ve done some basic research on Aruba instant on, refurbished HPE, and Mikrotik options, but given the conditions these are going to withstand, I was curious if anyone here had any thoughts on good options in terms of air flow and reliability. The Nortels really seem to take a lot of abuse, and I’m worried that cheaper new offerings won’t be able to hold up; particularly Mikrotik, simply because it is the cheapest option for a reason.
