In regards to network management, what are useful ways to utilize SNMP OIDs to retrieve information (within a script)? We're a mid-sized ISP and we manage about 10,000 devices in total, and so far we just retrieve all SNMP messages and filter them into a single alarm screen. Any troubleshooting in response to these alarms usually requires remotely logging into the device and checking the status and logs. Wondering if there is anyway to streamline this to avoid logging into every single device that needs troubleshooting. For example, a script that retrieves the OIDs for devices' interface status and descriptions, and output something similar to "sh int desc".
Any useful ways you've seen OIDs used?
