Proper implementation of VRRP with OSPF

So, we are getting space in a data center to get transport from there to several locations. We want to have a failover core router there. We use Mikrotik Routers. Initially I tested out a simple vrrp on the wan side and on the downstream side I had each of the two routers connect to OSPF as their own unique identity. I set the backup router to redistribute the default route only if installed and set metrics on both routers that made the failover have about 5 seconds down time. I also have vrrp across a bridge between the two routers so that my publics IP's are only active on 1 router at a time.

I was told that this method is terrible and that I should put the ospf for those routers on top of vrrp and make both machines ospf identical. Everything I search online says not to use vrrp if you can use ospf. I was just curious to know if method is terrible and what the best method is.

Also the transport to multiple sites will likely be done using VLAN and bringing all the sites to the datacenter using a single vlan and one port. I was also told that I should do ospf point to point to each location using vlans for each, rather than doing broadcast. Is that correct and why?
