Hey guys, I need some recommendations on network testers. Quick info, I’ve recently started my own business, I do small scale consulting and installation of network gear for small businesses. I pull indoor and outdoor cable (cat5/6). Until now I’ve used cheap cable testers, which have done the job so far. However it packed up, and I’m getting my money back under warranty return.
Problem is, what to get instead? This one cost me a lot of wasted time, because it was indicating cable faults when there wasn’t (took a while to diagnose the error was the tester and not the termination). Budget isn’t really huge, as I’m starting out, but I don’t really want to waste 2h on a job site with a dodgy tester.
What I need: - Cable faults (open/short/miswire) - POE info. - toning would be useful. - cable ID.
So, Fluke Microscanner POE is top of my list, but it’s also top of my budget. Or should I get an MT 8200 and a linksprinter 300 instead?
Any other decent testers or combination of testers, that will work well, and won’t break the bank? I’m willing to invest a bit in decent tools, as it will pay for itself in time saved. I don’t need to test or qualify hundreds of drops a month.
Ideal Networks VDV / Navitek comes up quite a bit, any good?
Netool.io and Pockethernet also come up quite a bit, opinions?
I’m in Europe if that makes a difference, some testers aren’t available in the EU (or at least at a decent price).
