Hello, I was trying to configure a multi site mesh network but didn't seem to be able to find help on the existing ubiquity community forms and email support with ubiquity doesn't seem like it's going to be super helpful.
There are three sites currently connected to each other with AirMax antennas and only one site (let's call it site A) has internet connection. The three sites are connected to each other with an inline system so the current setup is:
-
A connected to B
-
B connected to A and C
-
C connected to site B
However this system has no redundancy and if any of the four antennas go down, portions of the network go down, and I have to drive over to the site to troubleshoot.
I was planning on adding a connection from site C to site A so that there is redundancy within the network in case an antenna goes down the network can still route around through the other links. Also hoping the links can have greater bandwidth when all antennas are up So hopefully it would be:
-
A connected to B and C
-
B connected to A and C
-
C connected to B and A
With plans on having EdgeRouters on all sites.
Another complication is a plan to add another site with internet connection, so:
-
A connected to B and C
-
B connected to A and C
-
C connected to A, B, and D
-
D connected to C with two different antennas
with the fall-over connection to site D being a VPN in addition to the extra antenna on site C
The plan was for an internet link bonding between the internet connections of A and D with most traffic being bonded for additional speed but then QOS sensitive applications such as VOIP using whichever site has the lowest latency.
All sites would have their own independent network for security purposes and independent DHCP but would all still need to access LAN resources such as servers and cross site LAN VOIP. I’m assuming I’d also have to use management VLANs on the AirMax antennas if I’m going to be using any from of link bonding.
I'm assuming something like VLAN link bonding would be my best bet but I was wondering if there was any way to install B.A.T.M.A.N on the EdgeRouters? Overall I’m not really sure where to start on this or if EdgeRouters are even the right hardware for the task.
Will the edge products just implement STP on their own and I won't actually have to worry about it? Does that provide any added speed? Should I just use an x86 PFSense router instead or something instead?
