Noob question here on subnetting iIPv4 addresses. A number of tutorials do show how to go about getting the Network ID, first host IP, last host IP, broadcast IP and a plethora of other details one may want. All termed as subnetting.
Whilst on the other hand, there’s subnetting - dividing a network into smaller networks. For instance, you’re given a certain IP by your ISP with a CIDR notation and you may want to divide the network into smaller networks, thus subnetting.
Of the two, which really is subnetting? Moreover, why is the former more commonly put out as opposed to the latter as subnetting?
Are the two processes complementary?
