Question about default gateways on a catalyst 4500

Our core network device is a catalyst, which handles all traffic for our equipment. I had to recently set a route so I could access our network across the firewall. Prior to this, there was no default gateway set and everything was routed via SVIs.

We have an IP on the firewall interface which is 192.168.20.253. I added this command on my catalyst: Ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.20.253.

The 192.168.20.X subnet also handles the management for all of our distro and access switches. The core IP SVI on vlan 20 is 192.168.20.250.

Did I correctly set the default gateway? Should I also put the 192.168.20.253 IP on all of my access/distro switches as the default gateway? I've noticed a lot of packets saying no route in the traffic counters.
