I dont understand APIPA. Purpose is supposed to be that if DHCP fails, APIPA will kick in by default and all systems on subnet will default to APIPA adresses so they can communicate.... but this seems unnecessary, if all of the systems are already on the same subnet they will be able to communicate with eachother whether the DHCP server goes down or not, right?
Could they not be set to hold their current IP until they make contact with a DHCP server again?
The only downside would be new systems would have to be configured on this network manually if the DHCP server doesn’t come back up soon, is that the reason it makes sense?
