As a bit of background, I have four years indirect experience working as a Network Administrator in the military (Technically three if you discount training). This is a primarily Cisco environment. Technically, i'm a Systems Administrator, but i go out of my way to focus more on networking instead, which is why i say indirect experience. My certifications are CCNA R&S, Security+, Network+. Currently i'm pursuing CCNP Enterprise and expect to finish before the end of the year.
The goal here is to make myself a marketable ($$$) Network Engineer and become very well rounded. Often i read here that companies have CCNP individuals who completely lack fundamental skills. So my question is, what do you consider fundamental skills? If a CCNP is interviewing at your company, what skills do you expect this individual to have? What would completely turn you off?
Skill examples:
- Password recovery on Cisco Routers
- Installing IOS images via TFTP
- ect...
Additionally, from your experience, what technical interview questions are asked the most? What are some questions you got asked?
Essentially, I don't want to be the next paper CCNP and ensure that i'm actually meeting expectations as a Network Engineer.
