I was recently cataloging the amount of overhead that IPsec tunneling adds and I realized that IPv6 traffic encapsulated in an IPv6 IPsec VPN has quite a bit of overhead to it. That got me thinking - as bandwidth needs continue to grow, and IPv6 adoption becomes more a reality, will there be a need to rethink the industry-standard 1500 byte MTU and instead support jumbo frames across the entire internet? Or do you believe that would that require far too much coordination to ever be possible?
