L1 Switch with BGP

I would like to understand the architecture to configure BGP on an L1 Switch (Metamako or Exablaze).

Couple of options are suggested:

- Send BGP from a separate L3 switch

- Send BGP requests from the host (Linux server)

I would appreciate any suggestions, pros/cons on the above methods.
