Interface down

Hi everyone, By any chance is it possible to know the mac address learnt on that interface after the interface is down?

I know that immediately after the interface line protocol is down, Mac vanishes

Maybe we could find what was the connected device on particular interface (if there is no description given) using network diagram

Please suggest if there is any tool that can automatically scan the network devices.
