Hi, So the thing is we will have to create a new VM in a rack server and the new VM will act as a DHCP server for several nodes and subnets. We will have support from some experts probably but we need to have some basic understanding before.
So how exactly should we approach to configure the new VM as a standalone DHCP server. I mean, is there any DHCP software that configures a given server as a DHCP server? Or do we need to install a regular OS like windows or linux first and then install that software in that OS.
I heard about Microsoft windows server and saw couple of youtube videos. So should we install windows server edition in that VM and attempt configurations for DHCP ?
Is there any alternative like installing Linux OS in that new VM and then configure for DHCP server?
How any of you networking professionals would approach this. Please note that, a new VM will be created for the sole purpose of serving as a DHCP server for a big network.
P.S. This is my first post at this sub and if this question is not right for this subreddit, please suggest me any other sub and I'll remove and post there. Thanks in advance.
