Hey Guys!
I rarely post things, even less so about my accomplishments, but really wanted to share this time.
I have had my CCNA on and off since college in 2008, and started on my CCNP once before but never completed it due to a brief career in unrelated field. Recently I got an IT job again, and decided to get certified. Did my SWITCH right away, but put off the ROUTE for a long time. The upcoming change in certification process motivated me to at least get ROUTE done before the change (so i wouldn't need to do the core exam). Luckily at my new job I got a lot of exposure to most technologies covered, and troubleshooting some issues forced me to learn a LOT about OSPF amongst other things. Now of course, a lot of life happened that made me keep putting the exam off... And by the time i went to book it, i had 2 dates available (at the only center here) before deadline. I picked the first date, a week away, studied everything i was not too sure about and passed! I was so stoked, i made a slightly irrational decision to try TSHOOT the following week on the last available date if it was still available. I figured that since my job involves a lot of troubleshooting i may have a chance (i read a few posts reinforcing my hopes). Spend a day in Keith Barker's GNS3 labs (only time I got with my situation), big THANKS to him! Found them fairly easy to solve, boosting confidence.
Man, then more life happened. Our baby arrived a bit earlier than due date, 2 days before the exam. I went in with maybe 6 hours of sleep since the birth, with a splitting headache. I sh*t you not guys, i had troubles drawing the diagram prior to start of the exam on the laminated sheet. My fine motor skills were gone, and drawing arrows on switches was almost impossible. Didnt even use that drawing tbh. But i found my groove and found most of the questions straight forward. When i clicked submit, i honestly had no care about the result, just wanted sleep. Zero excitement seeing the "pass"...
Only now, after catching up on a bit of sleep for a few days thanks to super grandma, it settled in that I got my cert, and i feel a bit happy and relieved.
Sorry for wall of text, really wanted to brag a bit. I wont share details about my experience irl, so i look to you, internet strangers, for a bit of gratification :)
So, anyone else push to the deadline to get their Cisco cert? Share your story on this last day of its existence!
Tldr; passed ROUTE and TSHOOT a week apart, 4 days before end of old cert process with a newborn in between. Share your experience!
