Folks, i know there is no one line answer of this question but still i would like to get some short of suggestion to see what community think about it, let me first tell you about my datacenter.
I have 3 layer network design core/aggre/access layer model where roughly around 100 L2 switches with 3000 physical server and running all IP protocol (not a single windows machine, everything on Linux) i have lots of VLAN to break broadcast domain but still in some VLAN i have more than 500 servers because of network expansion (i hate it but can't control, reason i am running private openstack cloud and it's hard to tell someone to not spin up VMs.
Now question is what is the limit of L2 network and when i should be really worried, I totally understand how broadcast can ruin network but i would like to know what i should look to understand something is not good at X limit.
How big L2 network is acceptable in all normal condition without complexity?
