IPSEC IKEv1 Dead Peer Detection, on both sides or just 1?

Hello,

had a quick search but couldn't find anything concrete.

Just wondering if when using IPSEC IKEv1, do you enable Dead Peer Detection, on both sides of the VPN, or just 1?
