Need: Access to centralized files remotely with a mapped drive

I am laid up for the next couple of months and need to work from home. Primarily quickbooks and (IMAP) e-mail I want to have my quickbook file available to my home machines as Z:\quickbookfile.qbw and my Thuderbird e-mail similarly mapped. This way all of my changes made from home will be reflected when I return to work and the fileserver.

Am I looking for a VPN? Could it be simpler like dropbox?
